In downtown New York, there’s a special place at 57 Great Jones Street that’s cherished among art enthusiasts. It’s a two-story building that Andy Warhol bought in 1970, and later, he rented the second floor to his friend Jean-Michel Basquiat. Recently, Angelina Jolie and her daughter Zahara stumbled upon this building while searching for retail spaces. They instantly knew it was the perfect spot.

In November, Angelina Jolie will open Atelier Jolie, a unique fashion venture. It’s not just a fashion brand; it’s a cultural center where art and fashion come together. Atelier Jolie will offer tailoring, upcycling services, showcase local artisans, and have a café run with the help of refugee organizations. Jolie’s goal is to support artisans and create a sense of community rather than becoming a famous fashion designer herself.

The building’s second floor will become a workshop with talented tailors using sustainable and artisanal fabrics. They’ll offer made-to-measure clothing starting at around $300, along with repair services and DIY stations for patrons.

The building has a rich history, including graffiti tags from Basquiat, and Jolie is keen to preserve its artistic spirit. She’s joined by Helen Aboah and Giles Duley in this project, focusing on positive impacts in the fashion industry and raising awareness about issues like workforce exploitation and pollution.

Jolie involves her children, like Pax and Zahara, in the project. She considers it a family endeavor and believes in empowering her kids to be their own individuals. Here, enjoy a video directed by Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt.

The project also includes a collaboration with designer Gabriela Hearst, featuring sustainable and elegant pieces. It’s a partnership aiming to make a difference in the fashion industry.

Throughout her life, Jolie’s sense of fashion has evolved, and she now sees clothing as a way to express one’s true self. She wants Atelier Jolie to help people discover their style and feel comfortable in their own skin.

Angelina Jolie’s journey into fashion is about more than just style; it’s a platform to address important issues like sustainability and social impact. She hopes to use her influence for positive change in the world.

Ultimately, Atelier Jolie is Angelina Jolie’s way of rediscovering herself and creating a forward-facing aspect of her life, as she navigates the challenges of motherhood and personal growth.
